“Hello world.” For some people it’s a simple greeting, for a developer it’s proof of success. To us it’s so much more than that.
Culturally, it is a salutation to all of your existence. To a developer it is a “tradition often used to illustrate to beginners the most basic syntax of a programming language, or to verify that a language or system is operating correctly” [Source]. It’s the stepping stone when learning a new language and proving to yourself that you are on the right path. Once that proof has been established, you can move on to much harder tasks and logic building. Thus allowing the programmer to go from a simple salutation to something wonderful.
We are the primordial ooze of potential. Watch what we become next.
So we like to believe there’s a bit more to it than a greeting, or a simple function. It’s an acknowledgement of bigger things to come. To us, “Hello World” is like saying, “Greetings everyone, we exist. We are the primordial ooze of potential. Watch what we become next.”
To everyone still with us, Wonder Giant graciously says “Hello World”.
